About Me

Picture
I am a former journalist who now works independently as a writer, editor, researcher and translator and continues to travel as much as possible.

As a journalist, I have extensive experience in Latin America and was a correspondent and producer for both CNN and CBS, where I reported from every country in Latin America.  My chapter in the book, Alone Together: Tales of Sisterhood and Solitude in Latin America, is a reflection of those experiences.

I also spent two years in Colombia, as a Knight International Journalism Fellow and as a grantee for Transparency Internationa to continue with a data mapping project.

I also teach journalism classes at the University of Florida.

I am fluent in Spanish.
My current projects include my work as an editor and as a writer for a Latin American business magazine and a travel website.  I have particular expertise in editing the works of journalists, scholars and researchers for whom English is a second language. I have edited two memoirs by Puerto Rican authors, part of a book on reggaeton, an environmental education book by a group of authors at Cornell University, and another memoir by a Puerto Rican filmmaker.

I write about the duty free and travel retail industry in the Americas for www.dutyfreemagazine.ca and about travel in Western North Carolina for Bindutrips.com

In Gainesville, the north central Florida city I call home, I am involved in my community and sit on the boards of the Matheson History Museum, as well as the Civic Media Center and the Gainesville Area Women's Network.

And of course, I like to travel. You already know  I have a particular fondness for western North Carolina, which you can see if you visit me on Facebook at the link below.
